Blackwater Show Report - June 2012

Black Water Show Report

Oh my goodness what an amazing day ,show preparations started with many members meeting at the show ground on Saturday morning fit for work and raring to go! After 6 hours the two trailers were unloaded the main marquee and animals pens were all erected the scene was set.

Thank you to Darren Helen Craig and Toni who camped at the site over night in the pouring rain.

Sunday morning arrived I had been laying in bed listening to the rain for what seemed like hours Mr French phoned about 5.15 am to say he was possibly going to have to cancel due to the site being flooded, the Chairman made a few calls to EESG members and it was decided we would go ahead we would not be beaten by the English weather.

We all arrived at the show ground all be it a little later than expected due to the water and mud.
Soon the animals were arriving and safely stored in their relevant pens although Phil’s Campbell ducks fancied an afternoon of fun and frollicks as they escaped into Nigel’s pen of Rouen ducks they had a lovely time.

The Boer goats with their 4 little kids were a great crowd puller and all behaved beautifully.

Nigels cream Legbar hen also had a lovely time she flew onto the top of the 6 foot poultry pen and just popped in to see her neighbors for a while.

The pigs were very relaxed and slept for most of the day.

The Dig It area was a huge success raising over £60 with plant sales.

Our catering area was busy from the moment we got there with Helen and the team cooking our delicious breakfast of homemade sausages (provided by EESG member Nick) and bacon rolls.

Once the show opened it didn’t take long for a queue to form to buy wonderful cakes baked and served by our members who were rushed off their feet and managed to raise an amazing £225.00

There was only one heavy down pour other than that we were lucky with the weather I even got sunburnt on my nose so the sun was there!

A very BIG thank you to everyone (far far too many to name) for your time effort and hard work in making the Blackwater show such a success for the EESG,such a success in fact that The Weald Park and Game & country show have asked if we would be interested in exhibiting at their two day show so we must have made an impression !

Just one more BIG THANK YOU to all who helped we couldn’t do it without you.
