In this Month's Home Farmer...
Our current issue contains our autumn crafts section and features apple trees and soft fruit bushes, seed bombing, medlars and quinces, our usual features on polytunnels and foraging, geese for the larger garden, Dot Tyne' smallholder diary, uniting bee colonies, recipes galore, including a few from River Cottage and special features on a Pennine farm producing raw milk and co-operatives which help to give people access to land and the skills to work it. We also have a couple of great competitions for a vegtrug and a polytunnel, and free fruit bushes for readers.
And your new Home Farmer also comes complete with a lick of new paint as our designer, Chris Charles, has slogged away for several months to perfect a new and fresh look for your favourite magazine - the first upgrade for many years. Chris has worked with us since the very first issue, and much of what Home farmer is comes courtesy of him. We hope you like the new look, and continue to appreciate the content, which we have not attempted to alter.

Win One of Five Subscriptions to Home Farmer...
Got a friend who doesn't get Home Farmer? Perhaps someone who has recently started to grow their own fruit and veg, or likes a great recipe? Or perhaps someone who just enjoys a good read? Think they might enjoy it the same as you? Then enter our competition to win one of five six month subscriptions to Home Farmer for a friend. All we ask is that each lucky beneficiary is not already a subscriber, and that a subscription is not already sent to the proposed address. And to win we are not asking that you put forward the address and details of your proposed new subscriber - simply send an email to ruth@homefarmer.co.uk with the subject heading 'SUBSCRIPTION COMPETITION' together with your own details, including a daytime phone number (if possible) for easy contact. Emails should be received by us no later than Sunday evening, and we shall select the five winners on Monday. You can  let us know their details when we contact you, and then give them the good news.
Elizabethan Pickled Mushrooms...
This inspired recipe has been provided by new contributor, Seren Evans-Charrington. Seren is a food historian, professional cook and writer, and much of her work is the culmination of a real passion for British food history and a love of old cookery books. She kicks off her writing for us with a few 'Vintage Pickle' recipes. Think of this as food archaeology, with some of Seren's recipes for making pickles dating back to mediaeval Britain. Seren has just published her book, The Pleasure of Preserving

Win a Supply of Raw Milk...
One of my favourite recent visits as editor of Home Farmer was to Emma's dairy at Gazegill Organic Farm - one of a small number licensed to supply raw milk - unpasteurised and unhomogenised, containing live enzymes, whole fats, and no trans-fats like its homogenised counterpart. Gazegill Farm has been in the same family for over five hundred years, and Ian and Emma, who currently farm the land, have kindly offered six prizes of six litres of raw milk, delivered free in sheep's wool insulation, to the homes of six lucky newsletter recipients. To enter simply answer the question: How much do Gazegill Farm charge for a half rare breed organic meadow-reared lamb in their current special offer? Email your answer, which can be found atwww.gazegillorganics.co.uk, to ruth@homefarmer.co.uk with the subject heading 'RAW MILK', together with your details including your address and, where possible, a daytime contact phone number. Emails should reach us by no later than Sunday evening, and six winners will be selected and informed on Monday.
